Admit One: Jack Bauer Sr. 1/30
This week we have three new movie coming into theaters but the only one you really need to concern yourself with is Liam Neeson in Taken (more on that in a bit).
The Uninvited
Starring: Emily Browning, Elizabeth Banks, Arielle Kebbel
Directed by: Guard Brothers
Plot: When her mother dies a young girl goes to live with her father. Upon arriving she finds out her father is engaged to a woman who the girl believes is hiding some sort of evil.
RT Freshness: 43%
Critic Consensus: “The Uninvited is moody and reasonably involving, but suffers from predictable plot twists.”
New in Town
Starring: Renee Zellweger, Harry Connick Jr., J.K. Simmons
Directed by: Jonas Elmer
Plot: A Miami executive heads to a small town for a business opportunity and hi jinks apparently ensue.
RT Freshness: 13%
Critic Consensus: “Cliched and short on charm, New In Town is a pat genre exercise that fails to bring the necessary heat to its Minnesota setting.”
Kick Ass Pick of the Week: Taken
Starring: Liam Neeson, Famke Janssen, Maggie Grace
Directed by: Pierre Morel
RT Freshness: 57%
If Taken was an album it would be called “Jack Bauer’s Greatest Hits”. Liam Neeson stars as Bryan, a former CIA preventer who lets his daughter go to Paris with a friend. However, his daughter is kidnapped and Bryan has to wreck some Parisian heads to get her back. After months of drama and sappiness it’s great to get a movie that is basically pure action and bad assery. Neeson electrocutes a guy, shoots a woman in the leg, breaks necks with his legs and causes one guy to get hit by a bus. Imagine how much more awesome 24 Season 6 would have been if Neeson was Jack’s dad instead of James Cromwell. Oh and Xander Berkeley shows up to add to the 24ness of the movie.
