Battle at the Box Office 10/5

Film Review Zombieland

Zombieland did indeed “Nut up or Shut up” as it took home the top place at the box office this past weekend. The movie took in $25 million and came in just behind Dawn of the Dead (2004) for the highest grossing opening weekend in the zombie genre. It’s win is also significant as it’s the first horror/comedy to perform well in a while. Coming in second was Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, still going strong in it’s third week with $16.7 million. The re-release of Toy Story 1 and 2 in 3D came in at number three with $12.5 million and proving Woody, Buzz and the gang have still got it. Ricky Gervais continues to struggle at the box office as the Invention of Lying came in fourth place with $7.4 million, which is better than Ghost Town but below expectations. Rounding out the new movies were Capitalism: A Love Story and Whip It both coming in at around $4.9 million. For holdouts from last week both Surrogates and Fame dropped 50% from the previous week with Surrogates coming in fifth place and Fame dropping down to eighth.
