Not too shabby a weekend for most of the new releases. Where the Wild Things Are took the top spot with around $33.7 million and pulling in a wide range of ages. Law Abiding Citizen took the second place spot despite being critically panned but it is one of the first action/thrillers since the summer. Paranormal Activity took advantage of it’s wide release and took $19.6 which brings it up to $33.2 million in total. Last week’s number one, Couples Retreat, dropped down to fourth with $17.2 million and a drop of around 49%. The other new release, The Stepfather, came in fifth with $11.5 million, which is below average for these teen focused horror movies and it will probably drop even farther this weekend with Saw VI coming out. Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, Zombieland, Toy Story/Toy Story 2, Surrogates and The Invention of Lying rounded out the top 10.
