Battle at the Box Office 11/9
Movie goers got into the Christmas spirit this weekend as A Christmas Carol took the top spot at the box office. The movie opened with $31 million, on the low side of other holiday movies like Elf or The Santa Clause 2 but better than Robert Zemeckis’ previous CG holiday movie, The Polar Express. This Is It stayed strong in second place with $14 million. The Men Who Stare At Goats and The Fourth Kind had good openings as well, coming in third and fourth respectively. Paranormal Activity might be losing a bit of steam thanks to Halloween being over, it dropped down to fifth place with $8.6 million. The Box came out to a fairly mediocre sixth place with $7.8 million. Couples Retreat, Law Abiding Citizen, Where the Wild Things Are and Astro Boy rounded out the top ten. Finally, the Saw van drove off the cliff as the movie dropped another 62% and 5 spots to fall out of the top ten into eleventh place.
