Battle at the Box Office 8/16
Gentlemen, our long national nightmare is over. After dealing with the seemingly endless parade of sparkly vampires and Nicholas Sparks adaptations, the real kings of the box office took their rightful place at the top of the weekend box office. The Expendables took in over $35 million, defeating it’s estrogen fueled nemesis Eat, Pray, Love, which made $23.7 million. Last week’s number one and two, The Other Guys and Inception both dropped down to three and four respectively. Hipsters and comic nerds are feeling melancholy today as their beloved Scott Pilgrim vs. The World had an extremely lackluster fifth place debut with only $10.5 million. Last week’s third, fourth and fifth (Step Up 3D, Salt, Dinner for Schmucks) dropped down to seventh, eighth and ninth. With no real competition for the rest of the summer, how far can Stallone and Co. go in first place?
