Battle at the Box Office 3/28
Despite massive hype starting last year at Comic Con, Sucker Punch had to settle for a second place finish against Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules. Wimpy Kid 2 earned $24.4 million, which is a couple million more than the first movie that debuted around the same time last year. Sucker Punch earned just over $19 million, which compared to other Comic Con darlings, is a little worse than Kick Ass’ opening but better than Scott Pilgrim’s opening. It is the worst live action opening for Zack Snyder. Last week’s number one, Limitless, dropped down to third with another $15 million. The Lincoln Lawyer maintained it’s spot in fourth place with $10.7 million and Rango rounded out the top 5 with $9.8 million. Battle: Los Angeles had a pretty big tumble from last week, going from third to seventh with $7.6 million. Everything else pretty much moved down a spot or two from where they were last week. There’s quite a bit of competition this weekend with another kid’s movie in Hop, the re-release of edited King’s Speech and the thriller Source Code, so who will come out on top.
