Dark Shadows Trailer
About as obscure a source as you can possibly get, Dark Shadows was a gothic soap opera that ran in the mid 60’s to early 70’s. Tim Burton and Johnny Depp were both apparently huge fans of it as they’ve reimagined it for their latest team up. Barnabas Collins (Johnny Depp) is a wealthy industrialist in the 1750’s when he’s cursed by a witch to be a vampire and is sealed away in a coffin until the 1970’s, when he’s uncovered. Barnabas returns to his mansion, Collinswood, and finds his quirky descendants have taken up residence including matriarch Elizabeth (Michelle Pfeiffer), daughter Carolyn (Chloe Moretz), uncle Roger (Johnny Lee Miller), his son David (Gulliver McGrath) and live in psychologist Dr. Julia Hoffman (Helena Bonham Carter). Baranabas attempts to rebuild the family’s fortune and deal with the witch who cursed him, Angelique (Eva Green), who is alive and well and either wants Barnabas to love her or she’ll destroy him and his entire family. I get a very Addams Family vibe but through the Tim Burton filter and Johnny Depp is basically doing the exact same thing he’s been doing for the last three or four Tim Burton movies. It looks like it could be kind of fun with the “fish out of water in the 70’s” stuff so we’ll have to wait to find out in May. Check out the trailer below.
