Battle at the Box Office 8/27
In case you couldn’t tell by the movies that came out over the weekend, Summer blockbuster season is officially over as the new releases barely registered on the charts. The Expendables 2 took the top spot for the second week in a row but is still well below the original. It’s total is $52 million while The Expendables was at $65 million at the same point. It also dropped 50% from the last weekend. The Bourne Legacy stayed in second with another $9.5 million but it is set to become the lowest grossing movie in the franchise. ParaNorman also stayed firm in third place with another $8.5 million. The Campaign and The Dark Knight Rises rounded out the top 5. With the new releases, Premium Rush was the “best” performing but it only came in seventh with $6.3 million. Hit & Run barely made it into the top 10 with $4.7 million and The Apparition was a disaster with $2.9 million and 12th place. In other news, Sparkle imploded and went from fifth to eleventh.
