Battle at the Box Office 3/18
Oz the Great and Powerful was able to maintain it’s spot at the top of the box office this weekend with another $42.2 million, bringing it to over $145 million. In a surprising number two was The Call, which got pretty abysmal reviews but managed to make $17.1 million, better than a lot of Halle Berry’s recent thriller efforts. With the combined power of Steve Carell and Jim Carey, third place and $10.3 million for Burt Wonderstone equals a massive bomb. It’s definitely one of the worst debuts for both comedians. Jack the Giant Slayer and Identity Thief rounded out the top 5. The only other really big movement was from action bomb, Dead Man Down, which fell from fourth place in it’s debut last weekend to not even on the top 10 this weekend, coming in at eleventh with just $2 million. The Croods may be able to top Oz this weekend as it’s the first major animated movie of the year from Dreamworks.
