  • Jessica Chastain, Benedict Cumberbatch join Guillermo Del Toro’s Crimson PeakGuillermo Del Toro will be following up Pacific Rim with a gothic romance/horror movie called Crimson Peak and it was announced this week that Jessica Chastain and Benedict Cumberbatch will be starring.  The movie is set at the turn of the century and is a ghost story that takes place in both America and Cumbria(?)
  • Jurassic Park 4 featuring a new dinosaur: Spinosaurus and Pteranodons took some of the spotlight away from T.Rex and the raptors in Jurassic Park 3 and now for part 4 there will be a new dinosaur, according to paleontologist Jack Horner, who is the movie’s technical expert.  He didn’t specifically name the species but said, “…you’ll want to keep the lights on after you see this movie”
  • Prometheus writer Jon Spaihts writing Black Hole remake for Disney: 1979’s The Black Hole is a cult Disney classic that is criticized mainly for it’s lathargic plot.  The movie is on track to be remade with Tron: Legacy, Oblivion director Joseph Kosinski directing and now Jon Spaihts, one of the writers of Prometheus, has been hired to write the script.  The movie followed a team of scientists who are on a research mission and stumble upon a ship that was missing on the edge of a black hole.
  • Jack the Giant Slayer could end up losing $100 million: Warner Bros will definitely taking a bath on Jack the Giant Slayer, as financial analysts have determined the movie could end up costing the studio $100 million based on it’s horrible box office performance.
  • AMC developing new, nerdy show with author Ernest Cline: The author of the incredible Ready Player One will be hosting a new show on AMC called Geek Out, where the author will travel to the homes of people with various obsessions and give them a chance to live out their craziest, nerdiest dreams related to their obsession.
  • Zoe Saldana joins Guardians of the Galaxy as GamoraThe third member of the Guardians has been cast as Star Trek/Avatar actress Zoe Saldana will be Gamora.  Gamora is a green skinned alien assassin who is considered by many to be “the most dangerous woman in the galaxy”.  The only members left to cast are living tree creature Groot and fan favorite, Rocket Raccoon.
  • Disney Closes Lucasarts: Disney shocked gaming and movie fans this week by shutting down the legendary game studio Lucasarts, which was included in the Star Wars buyout.  The studio has created some of the most beloved games in history including the Sam & Max, Monkey Island and Maniac Mansion games along with most all of the Star Wars and Indiana Jones games.  All projects the studio was currently working on have seemed to be scrapped, including the extremely cool looking Star Wars 1313 that would have starred Boba Fett investigating the lower levels of Coruscant.
  • Matthew Mconaughey confirmed to be starring in InterstellarChristopher Nolan’s upcoming sci-fi epic, Interstellar, has cast Matthew McConaughey in the starring role.  The movie follows a team of scientists who are investigating a wormhole.
  • Will Arnett joining TMNT reboot: The Turtles themselves were cast last week and this week it was announced that Will Arnett has joined the new Ninja Turtles movie in a still unknown role.  If I was to wager a guess, I would say he would probably be the villain, possibly Shredder.
  • Dark Horse adapting the original “The Star Wars” script into a comicDark Horse has gotten the rights to adapt George Lucas’ insane original script for Star Wars into an eight issue mini-series that will begin this September.  Among the many changes from the Star Wars we know and love is that Han Solo is a green lizard alien and the main character is Anakin Starkiller, getting guidance from General Luke Skywalker.
  • GI Joe 3 coming from ParamountWith it’s excellent opening weekend last week, Paramount is not surprisingly moving forward with a third entry in the franchise.  It’ way to early for any plot or character details or if director Jon Chu will return to direct.
  • Original and remake Evil Dead universes could combineOut promoting the remake this weekend, Bruce Campbell and director Fede Alvarez mentioned that their dream plan would be a remade Evil Dead 2, Army of Darkness 2 with Bruce and then combining the universes for a mind blowing finale.  Hopefully the Evil Dead does great this weekend (and according to Joe, it’s amazing) so that this plan can come to fruitation.
