It was a pretty slow weekend at the box office this weekend but 2 Guns managed to take the top spot with $27.4 million.  It’s a little better than Contraband, which had both the same star (Mark Wahlberg) and director (Baltasar Kormakur) but it was kind of disappointing with the addition of Denzel Washington, as it was only his fifth best opening and down from his recent action movies like Safe House and The Book of Eli.  The Wolverine dropped down to second place with $21.7 million, putting it just $5 million shy of $100 million.  In third place, The Smurfs 2 bombed with only $18.2 million for the weekend and $27.7 million total since it came out on Wednesday.  The first movie made $35.6 million in only three days.  Monsters University, Despicable Me 2 and Turbo are all still doing pretty solid business and all of them were probably much more favorable choices for parents, most of whom probably hated the first movie.  Planes is out this coming weekend, so Smurfs 2 should hopefully die a quick death.   The Conjuring and Despicable Me 2 rounded out the top 5.
