  • Roland Emmerich could reboot Stargate: A hit when it came out and spawning three TV series based in it’s universe, where portals allow travel to different dimensions and planets.  The original movie starred James Spader and Kurt Russell and Richard Dean Anderson stepped in for Stargate SG-1.  Director Roland Emmerich recently said that he was looking to reboot the series a possible trilogy of movies.
  • Warner Bros possibly doing a new Island of Dr. MoreauWB has apparently hired some screenwriters to create a new version of HG Wells’ classic novel, The Island of Dr. Moreau.  Lee Shipman and Brian McGreevy, most recently of Hemlock Grove, are the two hired to write the script.
  • The Rock and McG teaming up for remake of The Fall Guy: The Rock has been all over the place recently and one of his future projects may be a reboot of the classic 80’s adventure show, The Fall Guy.  McG is set to direct and, if it followed the formula of the show, The Rock would star as a stuntman by day/crime solver by night.  The role was originally played by Lee Majors.
  • Tom Hiddleston joins GDT’s Crimson Peak: Benedict Cumberbatch recently departed Guillermo Del Toro’s gothic horror movie Crimson Peak and now it seems that Tom Hiddleston has stepped in to co-star with Jessica Chastain.
  • Alan Taylor selected to direct Terminator 5: The Game of Thrones and Thor: The Dark World director has been picked to direct the upcoming fifth entry/reboot of the Terminator series, with Arnold starring as arguably his most iconic character.
  • Will Smith may return for ID4 sequel: Roland Emmerich mentioned recently that he is having a meeting with Will Smith soon to discuss him reprising his role for the upcoming Independence Day 2.  It’s just speculation but it’s possible that After Earth’s horrific performance may have swayed his decision to possibly return.
  • Jared Harris cast in Poltergeist and The Man from UNCLE: Mad Men/Sherlock Holmes 2 actor Jared Harris was cast in two pretty major projects this week.  First, he’ll play the host of a reality show in the world of the new Poltergeist called “Haunted House Cleaners” and he’ll play a role in Guy Ritchie’s remake of The Man from UNCLE with Armie Hammer and Henry Cavill.
  • Benedict Cumberbatch cast in The Lost City of ZCumberbatch wil be starring as legendary explorer, Percy Fawcett, who disappeared in the Amazon jungle in 1925, searching for a lost civilization he believed lay somewhere deep in the jungle.  The movie is based on a book about Fawcett’s story by David Grann.
  • Ian McKellan playing a retired Sherlock Holmes:   Sir Ian will play the legendary detective in the upcoming movie, A Slight Trick of the Mind, where a retired Holmes is haunted by a case from his past that he can’t remember fully and remains unsolved.
  • Zack Snyder apparently looking for love interest for Batman for Batman vs SupermanHenry Cavill’s Superman has Amy Adams’ Lois Lane and now apparently Zack Synder is searching for a love interest for the recently cast Ben Affleck’s Batman.  The casting call that went out says they are looking for someone in their late 20’s who is “both tall and possess physicality”.
  • Transformers 4 gets official subtitle: Transformers 4 is now Transformers: Age of Extinction and that, the teaser poster and other evidence basically confirms that Dinobots will be featured in the movie, finally.
  • Hayao Miyazaki retires from feature directing: Studio Ghibli announced earlier this week that legendary animation director, Hayao Miyazaki, has retired from directing feature length films.  Some of his films include Howl’s Moving Castle, My Neighor Totoro and Ponyo.
