Batman Vs. Superman DELAYED Until May 2016

Yep, you read the title.

Sad Batman is Sad.
I has a sad.

The ridiculously anticipated Batman Vs. Superman film has been delayed nearly a full year. It will now be released May 6, 2013.

Sadly, this is not a rumor.

There has been an eerie lack of information surrounding production… And while news seemed like it was finally starting to trickle out slowly but surely, solid facts were nearly impossible to wrangle. Rumors, on the other hand, were popping up by the dozen on a daily basis. Just look at any forum on the internet.

The most recent rumors claimed that Ben Affleck injured his leg in some sort of accident. We hope that isn’t true, obviously. But it’s a little bit fishy.

Call me a tinfoil hat guy, but follow me on this…

The rumor comes out. And later that same day, Warner Brothers announces that the film is being pushed back nearly an entire year. And they make the announcement after 5pm. On a Friday. While everyone is covering Sundance.

Fishy indeed. But the more I think about it, the writing was on the wall.

At least partially.

Paparazzi have been snagging an awful lot of photos of Ben recently. He also presented at the Golden Globes about a week ago. And while Ben is tremendously talented (he’s one of my personal favorite actors and directors), he didn’t exactly look like he was ready to play Batman in any of those appearances.

If you listen to the podcast (or if you’re familiar with my borderline creepy obsession with the male form as it pertains to action movies and ass-kicking), then you know that I don’t need — or want — Ben to look like Dorian Yates… But at least look like you’ve been in the gym.

Did he know production would be delayed? Maybe. On the off chance that he was the reason production is delayed, I’d have to imagine that it is (at least partially) due to him not being ready. And we might not ever know for sure.

I guess we can just watch this... Again...
I guess we can just watch this… Again…

One thing’s for certain though: we are EFFING bummed about this delay. For me, the epic summer of 2015 has lost its biggest movie.

In a lot of ways, the announcement of Batman Vs. Superman at SDCC 2013 seemed too good to be true. First of all, nobody was expecting a sequel to be announced. Hinted at? Sure. But not announced. And nobody was banking on Batman being involved.

Hell, most fanboys (like us) were too busy hoping they would tease the next villain. What we got instead was one of the single biggest shock in the history of comic book movies. The movie we were promised in the early 2000s, before Batman Begins was even an idea on a napkin, was finally set to happen. And with a capable director, nonetheless.

So we were all pretty jazzed about that.

Then they announced Ben Affleck was playing Batman. It broke the internet.

Last we heard, Gal Godot was cast as Wonder Woman — hopefully in a “big cameo” role.

And then, there was this…

At a time when every nerd I know is checking El Mayimbe’s Twitter at least once an hour looking for the Batsuit reveal, we get this news instead.

Not a great start to a weekend!

*sigh*
*sigh*

Rest assured that we’ll keep you as up-to-date as possible on all things Batman Vs. Superman as the details emerge. But for now, don’t hold your breath… May 2016 is a long ways off.

What do you think about this delay? Is it to compete directly with Marvel’s yet-to-be-announced release on the same day? Is it to re-write the script? Sign on more folks for the Justice League follow-up? Is it for Ben to get in Bat-shape?
