Battle at the Box Office 2/24
The Lego Movie continues it’s unstoppable domination of the box office with another $31.5 million, putting it close to $200 million total. It only dropped about 36% from the previous weekend.
In a distant second was 3 Days to Kill, definitely not hitting the Taken numbers that Europa was hoping for. It made $12.3 million, lower than last year’s Luc Besson project, The Family but it’s better than a lot of the other Europa movies that have come out post-Taken, like From Paris With Love and Colombiana.
Luckily, 3 Days to Kill didn’t cost nearly as much as Pompeii, which was a disaster on par with the volcanic eruption it depicted. It just barely over $10 million, but cost $100 million to make. It’s definitely one of the lowest openings for director Paul WS Anderson, who usually, and inexplicably, makes a ton of money with the Resident Evil movies, Death Race and more.
Robocop and The Monuments Men rounded out the top 5 with $9.4 and $8.1 million respectively.
About Last Night, and the other Valentine’s Day releases, all had drops now that the boost of the holiday is gone. About Last Night had the largest drop, falling over 70% from last weekend and going from second to sixth with $7.4 million.
