The Tick might return: Fox and Amazon have apparently made a deal to bring back The Tick, with Patrick Warburton returning as the titular superhero and The Tick’s creator, Ben Edlund returning as a producer.
Greatest American Hero remake coming to Fox: Lego Movie and Jump St. directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller are bringing the cult 80’s show to Fox. The show followed a normal guy who found an alien supersuit that gave him lots of powers, but he lost the directions so he’s never really sure how to use the suit properly. Lord and Miller have The Last Man on Earth, starring Will Forte, coming to Fox this season.
Katana recast for Arrow Season 3: Devon Aoki was forced to leave the show due to scheduling issues so Rila Fukushima, of The Wolverine, is stepping into the role. Katana will factor into the flashbacks to Oliver’s time in Hong Kong.
Joaquin Phoenix is in final talks for Dr. Strange: Unless something major happens, it appears that Joaquin Phoenix is going to be our new Sorcerer Supreme, as he’s entered the final round of talks with Marvel to star in the upcoming movie.
Netflix pays $2 million an episode for The Blacklist: Netflix got the exclusive streaming rights to The Blacklist this week but paid a hefty sum for the show. The first season will debut on Netflix on September 7th and the second season begins on NBC on September 22nd.
Underworld reboot coming: Lakeshore Entertainment is rebooting the vampire vs werewolves series with Priest and The Last Witch Hunter writer, Cary Goodman, writing the script. The last entry in the series was in 2012 with Underworld: Awakening. It’s not clear if this will be a full on reboot or a continuation starring Selene’s daughter, Eve, who was discovered in Awakening.
Saw returning to theaters: The original Saw will be returning to select theaters this Halloween for one week to celebrate it’s 10th anniversary.
Martin Scorsese planning a Ramones bio film: Scorsese is apparently working on a film revolving around the career of the famous rock band, possibly to coinicide with the band’s 40th anniversary of their first LP “Ramones” in 2016.
Charle Hunnam cast as King Arthur: The Sons of Anarchy/Pacific Rim star will wield Excalibur in Guy Ritchie’s upcoming update of King Arthur. Idris Elba was previously cast as Bedivere, the man who raises and train Arthur after his father’s death.
Inferno shooting in Spring: Ron Howard and Tom Hanks will re-team for the third entry in the Robert Langdon movie series, based on the Dan Brown books, Inferno. Inferno is actually the fourth book featuring Langdon but Sony is apparently skipping The Lost Symbol right now. Inferno follow Langdon as he wakes up in Italy with no memory of how he got there but with a secret organization after him because of some sort of secret involving Dante’s Inferno.
New Looney Tunes movie on the way: There’s been rumors of a Space Jam 2 starring Lebron James but there’s apparently another Looney Tunes movie on the way, this one starring Steve Carrell. The working title right now is Acme and it’s being written by 2 of the writers of X-Men: First Class.
Nicolas Cage starring in Pay the Ghost: Cage will star as a father who’s son is abducted by an evil ghost on Halloween and he must find a way to get him back. The Walking Dead and Into the Storm’s Sarah Wayne Callies will co-star as Cage’s estranged wife.
Chris Hemsworth and Charlie Day join Vacation reboot/sequel: Hemsworth will play Stone Crandall, an upcoming anchorman and Audrey Griswold’s husband. Ed Helms is starring as the grown up Rusty Griswold and Charlie Day will have a cameo as river rafting guide.
Neil Marshall “would love” to do a Black Widow movie: Marshall, who’s featured strong, kick ass women previously in films like The Descent and Doomsday, mentioned recently he would love to direct a solo movie for Scarlett Johannson’s Black Widow in the MCU. Marshall directed the pilot for DC’s upcoming Constantine show.
Lifetime orders The Omen series: Lifetime has picked up a six episode first season of “Damien”, a series based on The Omen. The show will follow a grown Damien, who is unaware of his role as the Antichrist, and him having to deal with the dark events that begin to happen as his destiny speeds toward him. Walking Dead’s Glen Mazzara is show running.
HBO developing a Shutter Island series: HBO, already getting a Westworld show, is developing a show based on Martin Scorsese’s Shutter Island. The movie will follow the history of the mental hospital on the titular island it’s controversial way of dealing with it’s patients. Scorsese may direct the pilot.
RIP Sir Richard Attenborough: The legendary actor/director passed away at age 90 this week. Attenborough is probably most famous to most of us as playing John Hammond in Jurassic Park but he also appeared in movies like the original Flight of the Phoenix and The Great Escape and directed movies like Chaplin, A Chorus Line and Gandhi, which he won an Oscar for.
