- Bond 24 is officially now Spectre, cast confirmed: The 24th Bond movie was officially titled Spectre this past Thursday, which seems to be hinting that the diabolical organization from the Connery years may return. Christoph Waltz, Monica Bellucci, Lea Seydoux, Dave Bautista and Andrew Scott are joining Daniel Craig, Ralph Fiennes, Ben Whishaw, Naomie Harris and Rory Kinnear as the main cast. Interestingly, Jesper Christensen, who played the mysterious Mr. White from Casino Royal and Quantum of Solace is also apparently returning, possibly linking Quantum to Spectre.
- Disney rebooting Robin Hood: Disney is still looking for a big live-action action adventure franchise and are going back to Robin Hood for their next attempt, they’ve bought a new spec script called Nottingham & Hood, which is a “revisionist” take on the classic story. Sony is also readying a gritty, dark reboot of Robin Hood, with their version being an attempt at an MCU interconnected universe.
- Chris Pratt may join Magnificent Seven: Since he’s the hottest actor in the world right now, Chris Pratt is jumping on tons of projects and one of them may be the Antoine Fuqua’s remake of The Magnificent Seven, already starring Denzel Washington.
- Ninja Turtles 2 gets a director: Dave Green, who made his debut with the incredibly forgettable but kind of successful Earth to Echo will take the reigns from Jonathan Liebesman, who directed this summer’s blockbuster reboot of the Turtles, for the sequel, which is hitting in 2016.
- Ryan Reynolds in final talks for Deadpool: Reynolds and Fox are hammering out final details but, unless something catastrophic happens, he will play Wade “Deadpool” Wilson in the first ever live action take on the Merc with a Mouth. Reynolds played Wade in X-Men: Origins and then voiced him in the test footage that was being used to sell the movie to Fox. Deadpool will be part of Fox’s X-Men universe.
- Benedict Cumberbatch is Doctor Strange: After tons of rumors and close calls, Benedict Cumberbatch will become Stephen Strange in Marvel’s Phase 3 solo movie for the Sorcerer Supreme. Doctor Strange is set to hit theaters in 2016
- Jessica Jones is Krysten Ritter: Ritter will star as the former superheroine turned private eye in the second Netflix Marvel series, which will most likely hit in late 2015.
- Walking Dead spin-off gets title, lead actor: The show will be called Cobalt and Cliff Curtis, most recently seen on Gang Related on Fox, will star as Sean Cabrera, a divorced dad and teacher trying to survive the zombie apocalypse with his ex-wife and their kids.
- Fargo Season 2 casts Jeffery Donovan, trying to get Nick Offerman: Heading from Florida to North Dakota, Burn Notice’s star Jeffrey Donovan will co-star as a character called Dodd while the season will be set in 1979 and follow a young Lou Solverson, the father of Season 1 protagonist Molly Solverson.
- The Crow gets a new director, loses Luke Evans: Corin Hardy, director of a stop motion short called Butterfly, will take over the reboot of The Crow. Luke Evans, who has been attached as the new Eric Draven, confirmed this week that he is not joining the film, becoming the latest name to be attached and then leave.
- AMC officially orders a pilot for Preacher: AMC has ordered a pilot for Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg’s adaptation of the classic comic series Preacher, which would seemingly be the perfect companion for The Walking Dead. The comic and show follows Jesse Custer, a priest who’s given the power of “the Word of God”, he sets out to confront God himself with the help of his girlfriend Tulip and a vampire named Cassidy.
- Source Code 2 in the works: The Jake Gyllenhaal starring, Duncan Jones directed sci-fi movie seemed to end pretty definitively but a sequel to Source Code is apparently in the works. It’s not clear if it will be a direct sequel or follow a new character caught in the same situation as Gyllenhaal was in the first.
- The Suicide Squad cast is announced: One of the first of DC’s interconnected universe of films, following Batman v Superman has gotten an insane cast. Will Smith is Deadshot, Margot Robbie is Harley Quinn, Jai Courtney is Captain Boomerang, Tom Hardy is Rick Flagg and Cara Delevingne is Enchantress. Jared Leto will also appear as The Joker, although it’s not clear how big or what his role will be. Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor is also rumored to appear as well and the casting for Squad supervisor Amanda Waller still needs to be done.
- Agent Carter premiere is now 2 hours: The first episode of the second Marvel TV show following everyone’s favorite bad ass female special agent, Peggy Carter, will now be a 2 hour movie event on ABC in January.
- Will Ferrell starring in a Shakespearean comedy: Ferrell will star in an untitled comedy being written by the duo of David Guion and Michael Handelman, who wrote The Ex and Dinner for Schmucks. The movie is set in the weird world Shakespearean theater actors.
- Matt Reeves directing a heist film: After directing the incredible Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, one of Reeves upcoming projects is an untitled heist film being produced by Tobey Maguire. Reeves said the film is in the vein of Heat or Dog Day Afternoon.
- Bill & Ted getting a comic sequel: Boom Studios, who are becoming the go to publisher of comic sequels to cult films like Big Trouble in Little China and Escape From New York, will be debuting a Bill & Ted comic mini-series in March of next year.
- Frozen 2 is in the works: Idina Menzel, who voiced Elsa, has said that a sequel to Frozen is “in the works”. That’s in addition to pretty much everything Disney can possibly convert or produce with Frozen on it, as the movie is a money printing machine and the highest grossing animated movie of all time.
