Battle at the Box Office 6/29
Jurassic World continued it’s domination of the box office, making another $54.2 over the weekend and holding off all comers. Adding to it’s pile of records, it’s now the fastest movie to cross $500 million domestically, raking in over $500 million in 17 days and it’s now the highest grossing movie of the year, passing Age of Ultron. It’s made over $1.24 billion worldwide and is in the top ten for all time gross and could possibly cross into the top 5 before the end of it’s run.
Inside Out stayed in second with another strong weekend, only dropping 42% from last weekend and making another $52.1 million and putting it over $184 million for it’s two weeks out.
Ted 2 took third with an underperforming opening. Universal thought it would be somewhere in the $45-50 million range but it only made $32.9 million, around $20 million off from the first Ted’s opening weekend but better than last year’s Seth MacFarlane bomb, A Million Ways to Die in the West.
Other new release Max and Spy rounded out the top 5, with the former taking in $12.2 million, pulling in $4.3 million on Friday but fading off for the rest of the weekend.
Dope fell pretty hard in it’s second weekend out, dropping from fifth to seventh with another $2.9 million and it’s made $11.7 million for it’s two weeks out.
