Movie of the Month: Beach Party

Since we’re in the peak of summer, for July’s movie of the month, it’s time to head to the beach with Franki Avalon for the first in AIP’s “Beach Movie” series, Beach Party.  Starring Frankie Avalon and Annette Funciello as a couple who just wants to surf and hang out and listen to Dick Dale during what is apparently just a typical day in 60’s Southern California, things get complicated when a bumbling professor studying the “mating habits” of 60’s teens and the leader of a gang of bikers enter the picture.

Beach Party kicked off an entire genre in the 60’s that included moves like Beach Blanket Bingo, Muscle Beach Party, Bikini Beach and Back to the Beach and it even inspired an homage from Disney Channel last year with their original movie, Teen Beach Movie.

Beach Party is on Netflix and we’ll dive into all the groovy hijinks at the end of the month.
