- Gambit shooting this fall: Channing Tatum’s solo X-Men movie is going to start shooting this October in New Orleans. There are some vague casting call descriptions of characters and it seems like the movie may be focusing on the assassin/thief feud of Gambit’s backstory.
- Ridley Scott to direct The Cartel movie: Based on the novel by Don Winslow, Ridley Scott has signed on to direct the crime thriller that follows two friends who diverge onto different life paths, with one becoming an FBI agent and one becoming a drug kingpin. Leonardo DiCaprio is in talks to star as the FBI agent, Keller.
- Tyrese had a meeting with WB about Green Lantern: After they announced the new Green Lantern movie will be a Corps movie, multiple Green Lanterns need to be cast and the most vocal star angling to play one, Tyrese Gibson, confirmed that he’s met with WB about the movie.
- Hulk Hogan fired from the WWE: Hogan was caught on tape delivering a racist rant and the WWE severed ties with the superstar, removing all mention of him from their website.
- Seth Gordon directing the Baywatch movie: The King of Kong and Horrible Bosses director will direct Dwayne Johnson in a reboot of Baywatch. The Rock is a serious, straight laced lifeguard who must team up with a crazy younger lifeguard to save the beach from an evil oil tycoon.
- X-Men/Fantastic Four crossover movie confirmed: Bryan Singer confirmed that he’s working on the X-Men/Fantastic Four crossover for Fox and that there are several ideas they are working on for the plot, with time travel possibly being the factor that lets them share the screen.
- All exploitation movie streaming channel coming soon: Release label Vinegar Syndrome is working on Exploitation.tv, which will be a streaming channel that will feature all low budget and exploitation films. The label has been release various horror and action movies on Blu Ray in recent years. The service will be $10 a month and start streaming in August.
- JR Bourne playing Double Down on Arrow: Normally a Flash villain, cursed gambler Double Down will fight Oliver Queen in the third episode of Arrow. He’s a metahuman who is able to use his playing card tattoos as weapons.
- American Psycho coming to Broadway: Patrick Bateman’s insanity is coming to Broadway in a musical version of the movie. It debuted in the UK with former Doctor Who Matt Smith starring as Bateman and Benjamin Walker, best known for Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, will play Bateman on Broadway. The show will open in March with preview shows beginning in February.
- Official Walking Dead beer coming: Terrapin Beer Company will be releasing Blood Orange IPA sometime this fall that is officially tied to The Walking Dead. Terrapin Beer has been seen on the show before.
- Sharknado 4 is coming: Sharknado 3 was another massive Twitter and ratings success, so Sharknado 4 is coming but the twist this time is that *spoilers*, 3 left off on a cliffhanger with Tara Reid facing down a life or death scenario and fans will vote on whether 4 begins with her living or dying a la Jason Todd in Death in the Family. 4 will debut next summer.
- Universal Studios rumored to be developing a video game park: Universal is apparently looking to expand and revamp their existing parks and they signed a massive deal with Nintendo earlier this year, so the rumor is that they could be looking to develop a full on video game based park.
- Jurassic World 2 announced for 2018: Now that it’s the third highest grossing movie of all time, Jurassic World is getting a sequel in 2018 with Chris Pratt returning to star.
- The Lone Gunmen are returning to the X-Files: The fan favorite conspiracy theorists are returning for the upcoming X-Files revival. The only snag is that they were seemingly definitively killed in the X-Files episode that was also the series finale of their spin-off show. Robbie Amell and Lauren Ambrose also joined the show this week as a pair of younger FBI agents.
- Michael Chiklis joining Gotham as a regular: Chiklis will play the new Gotham PD chief, Nathaniel Barnes, who becomes a mentor to Jim Gordon.
- The Rock reteaming with San Andreas director for Rampage: Brad Peyton will direct The Rock for the third time as they team up for Rampage, based on the classic Midway arcade game. The Rock will be the main hero fighting against the monsters who are starting to destroy major cities around the world.
- Benicio Del Toro may be the villain of Episode VIII: Del Toro has apparently been offered the villain role in the upcoming Star Wars: Episode VIII, which will be written and directed by Brick and Looper director, Rian Johnson.
- Disney rebooting Sword in the Stone for live action: Disney is rebooting yet another of their animated movies into live action with The Sword in the Stone. Brian Cogman, a writer/producer on Game of Thrones, will write the screenplay. Cogman is also working on the Magic: The Gathering movie.
- RIP George Coe: Original SNL cast member and beloved, heroin addicted butler Woodhouse on Archer, George Coe, passed away at age 86 this past week.
- Logan’s Run movie back on track: Simon Kinberg, producer on Star Wars Rebels and Star Wars Rogue One, is writing a new screenplay for the Logan’s Run reboot, which has been in the hands of directors like Nicholas Winding Refn and Bryan Singer over the years it’s been in development. It currently doesn’t have a director attached.
- Minecraft movie gets it’s director: Rob McElhenney, aka Mac on It’s Always Sunny, is directing the upcoming Minecraft movie.
