Battle at the Box Office 4/11
Melissa McCarthy proved a more brutal foe than Doomsday as The Boss managed to knock Batman v Superman off the top of the box office.
McCarthy’s latest took in $23.48 million, making it her seventh best opening of all time and the sixth movie in a row for her that has opened over $20 million. It’s two million better than Tammy’s opening, which was the last movie she co-wrote with and was directed by her husband, Ben Falcone.
Batman v Superman dropped to second with $23.43 million, putting it over $296 million for it’s three weeks out and it’s currently 59th on the all time world box office with $784.4 million, sitting between Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and Spider-Man 2.
Zootopia dropped to third with another $14.3 million and it’s made over $852 million worldwide, putting it at 46 currently on the all time chart.
My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 took fourth and new release Hardcore Henry took fifth with a less than expected $5 million but there’s nothing really to compare it to, since it’s really the first “FPS” movie released.
Nothing else changed too drastically and the only other movie worth mentioning was Demolition staring Jake Gyllenhaal had a fairly disasterous wide release, only making $1.1 million in 854 theaters.
