Battle at the Box Office 10/31
Possibly thanks to a boost from the holiday in it’s name, Boo! A Madea Halloween took the top spot again this weekend with another $16.6 million, putting it over $52 million for it’s two weeks out. It should easily reach the top levels of Tyler Perry movies, as the highest grossing movie from the director is Madea Goes to Jail with $90 million but most are in the $50-65 million.
The only new release, Inferno, was kind of a disaster with $15 million for it’s opening, far and way the worst opening for the Dan Brown adapted trilogy and another underperforming film from Ron Howard, who has not had great openings for his last few movies like Rush and In the Heart of the Sea. The Da Vinci Code made $77 million it’s opening weekend and Angels & Demons made $46.2 million, which Inferno might not even make in it’s entire run if things keep going bad.
Jack Reacher: Never Go Back dropped to third with $9.5 million, putting it at $39.6 million for it’s two weeks out.
The Accountant and Ouija: Origin of Evil rounded out the top 5.
The only other major developments further down the list is that Bollywood film Ae Dil Hai Mushkil took tenth place with $2.1 million in only 302 theaters.
