Battle at the Box Office 3/13

Kong: Skull Island took the top spot at the box office away from Wolverine with a $61 million opening, about $11 million more than Peter Jackson’s remake of the original King Kong but way below what 2014’s Godzilla did with a $93 million opening.  Kong also took in $85 million internationally, bringing it’s grand total to over $146 million.

Logan dropped to second with $37.8 million, dropping slightly over 57% from last weekend’s big opening but it’s about $7 million from taking the top spot for 2017 away from Lego Batman in only it’s second weekend, as it has over $152 million compared to Batman’s $159 million.

Get Out stayed strong in third place, dropping only 25% and making another $21 million, putting it over $111 million and making it currently the second highest Blumhouse prodcution behind Split.

The Shack and Lego Batman rounded out the top 5.

Further down the list, La La Land remained in the top 10 with $1.7 million and took ninth while Best Picture winner Moonlight dropped from 13th to 17th with $901,624 but it is in just slightly more than half as many theaters as La La Land.
