  • Tom Cruise reveals title for Top Gun 2: Tom Cruise revealed on Access Hollywood that the title of the upcoming Top Gun sequel will be Top Gun: Maverick.
  • EA announces Need for Speed Payback: Swedish studio Ghost Games is making Need For Speed Payback for EA that seems to be heavily inspired by Fast & Furious, as the story follows a crew that is looking for revenge when they are betrayed by one of their own and it looks like it takes place either entirely or for a good chunk in Las Vegas.
  • Mark-Paul Gosselaar heading into the apocalypse for Fox: Gosselaar will star in The Passage, an upcoming Fox show set in a world where government drug research has unleashed dangerous physics and superpowered humans.  He’ll be an FBI agent trying to protect a young girl and the show will flip between pre and post apocalyptic timelines.
  • Tales from the Crypt reboot dead at TNT: Due to the complex legal issues surrounding Tales from the Crypt, TNT has decided to end their development of a reboot from M. Night Shyamalan and instead seem to be shifting to a block of sci-fi programming with Ridley Scott.
  • More New Mutants cast for next year’s movie: Three more mutants were cast this week for Josh Boone’s New Mutants movie next year with Stranger Things’ Charlie Heaton cast as Cannonball, 13 Reasons Why’s Henry Zaga playing Sunspot and Blu Hunt has been cast as Danielle Moonstar.  Anya Taylor-Joy and Maisie Williams were previously cast as Magik and Wolfsbane respectively and it’s set for an April 2018 release.
  • Supergirl cast Season 3 big bad: Teased at the end of the season 2 finale with an evil baby being launched from Krypton along with Kara and Clark, Odetta Annable will play the grown version of Reign, basically the female Doomsday, for season 3 of Supergirl.  Reign was created as part of the New 52 relaunch at DC.
  • Sin City getting a TV reboot: Len Wiseman, director of the first Underworld, and Glen Mazzara, a producer on The Walking Dead, are developing a new take on Sin City for TV.  It’s apparently a “far departure” from the Robert Rodriguez films but it’s not explained what that means.  There is no network yet but a number of them are apparently interested.
  • Silicon Valley star cast in Godzilla 2: Thomas Middleditch has joined the cast of Godzilla: King of the Monsters but, like most of the cast, we don’t know who he’s playing.  The movie is being directed by Mike Dougherty and is set for March 2019.
  • New Lego Dimensions sets coming in September: Teen Titans Go, The Powerpuff Girls and Beetlejuice are coming to Lego Dimensions in September in new packs.  There will be Team and Fun packs for Teen Titans Go with Beast Boy, Starfire and Raven mini-figs and it unlocks an Adventure World, The Powerpuff Girl will also have Team and Fun packs and unlocks an Adventure World and Beetlejuice comes in a Fun pack with a Sandworm and unlocks an Adventure World and an Battle Arena.
  • Godzilla vs Kong gets a director: Adam Wingard, the director of Blair Witch, The Guest and You’re Next, is directing the epic battle between the new Godzilla and Kong in 2020.  There’s no plot details but based on what happens in Godzilla: King of the Monsters, Rodan, Mothra and Ghidrah might show up as well.
  • Next big Marvel Comics event is Venom based: The Secret Empire “Cap is a Nazi” event is going on right now over in the Marvel Comics but coming up in September, everyone is getting Venomed with Venomverse, a spin on the huge Spiderverse story from a few years ago.  Eddie Brock reunites with the symbiote and becomes old school Venom and has to recruit Venoms from across the multi-verse to fight an evil group of monsters called The Poison.
  • Animaniacs reboot in the works: The iconic 90’s cartoon is apparently coming back from Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment working with WB to bring the Warner Siblings back, although a network is far from finalized.  The entire original run of the show is on Netflix and the voice cast has been touring together and seem like they would be down to come back.
