Natalie Portman Heads into the Unknown in Annihilation (Trailer)

Based on the best selling book by Jeff VanderMeer, Annihilation is the follow up to Ex Machina by writer/director Alex Garland.  Starring Natalie Portman as Lena, a biologist, she joins an expedition into a mysterious environmental disaster zone called Area X that her husband (Oscar Issac) previously explored, with terrible results.  Gina Rodriguez, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Tessa Thompson and Tuva Novotny are the rest of the expedition and they encounter strange creatures and phenomenon that they cannot explain.  It looks a bit like what Neill Blomkamp’s OATS Studios has been doing with their short films and the book sounds really interesting (and is the first of a trilogy), so hopefully the movie matches that.  It’s out on February 23rd next year and you can check out the trailer below.
