The Gloves Are Off in Sicario 2: Soldado (Trailer)
The first Sicario was director Denis Villeneuve’s dark and intense entry into the action thriller genre as Emily Blunt got too deep into the black ops world of the drug war between the US government and Mexican cartels. Blunt is not returning but Josh Brolin and Benicio Del Toro are for Sicario 2: Soldado. Brolin’s Matt Graver is given basically carte blanche to escalate the war against the cartels and lets Del Toro’s mercenary for hire Alejandro fully off the leash to do whatever it takes to put a hurt on the cartels. Jeffrey Donovan is back as well and Catherine Keener, Matthew Modine, Isabela Moner and Christopher Heyerdahl join the cast with Italian director Stefano Sollima at the helm and Taylor Sheridan back writing the scipt. It definitely looks like it’s keeping the tone and style of the first Sicario and more time exploring Graver and Alejandro (and them basically having no restraints) seems like an awesome idea. The movie is out on June 29th next summer and you can check out the trailer below.
