Battle at the Box Office 7/2

As we roll into July, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom remained on top of the box office for another weekend while Sicario: Day of the Soldado and Uncle Drew did better than expected.

Fallen Kingdom brought in another $60 million, taking it to $264 million domestically and it’s closing in on $1 billion worldwide with $933.9 million. It is lacking significantly behind its predecessor, which had made over $402 million at the same point in time during its release in 2015.

Incredibles 2 remained in second with $45.5 million, only dropping another 43% from last week and moving up to $439 million domestic for its third week out and it’s crossed over $647 million worldwide. Its closing in on Finding Dory to become the highest grossing Pixar film ever.

Day of the Soldado opened in third place with $19 million, about $7 million more than what the first Sicario made when it opened wide back in 2015.  Sicario played for over 17 weeks and brought in $46.8 million but it also wasn’t up against massive summer blockbusters so Day of the Soldado probably won’t last as long at the theater but could make just over $50 million if it keeps its pace up.

Uncle Drew, the movie based on a series of Pepsi ads with NBA stars in old age makeup, opened better than expected, much like Sicario, with $15.5 million and an “A” Cinemascore from the audiences that saw it, so it should have some healthy word of mouth in the next week or so.

Ocean’s 8 rounded out the top 5 with another $8 million, bringing it to over $114 million and $210 million worldwide.

Further down the list, Indian movie Sanju opened in 356 theaters and took eighth place with $2.5 million.  Won’t You Be My Neighbor? expanded to another 306 theaters and remained in 10th place, making $2.3 million and $7.4 million for its four weeks out.
