Jennifer Kent Follows Up The Babadook With Revenge in The Nightingale (Trailer)
It’s been 5 years since The Babadook became an indie horror darling but writer/director Jennifer Kent is finally back for a follow-up with The Nightingale. Starring Aisling Franciosi as Clare, an Irish convict living in Australia, she finishes her seven year sentence as a servant to the abusive Lt. Hawkins (Sam Claflin) but he refuses to release her. Clare’s husband Aidan (Michael Sheasby) tries to intervene but they both become victim to the horrors of Lt. Hawkins and his men. Hawkins leaves for a new position in the north and Clare decides to track him and get her revenge, hiring an Aboriginal tracker named Billy (Baykali Ganambarr) to help her. Damon Herriman, Ewen Leslie and Charlie Shotwell co-star and the movie played at Sundance earlier this year to rave reviews. It looks like it could be a disturbing revenge/horror movie and it will be out on August 9th this year. Check out the trailer below.
