Bustin’ Gets Dramatic in the First Trailer for Ghostbusters: Afterlife
After the “mixed” reaction to Ghostbusters: Answer the Call, Sony has gone back to the drawing board and brought director Jason Reitman in to pick up where his father left off with Ghostbusters: Afterlife. Officially set in the same timeline as the original two movies, the movie follows Egon’s grandchildren, Trevor (Finn Wolfhard) and Phoebe (McKenna Grace), as they move to Summerville, OH with their mother Callie (Carrie Coon) into an old farmhouse they inherited from the OG Ghostbuster. The small town is experiencing mysterious earthquakes and there is definitely something otherworldly going on but luckily Egon left behind equipment like ghost traps, proton packs, and the Ecto-1. Paul Rudd co-stars as Mr. Grooberson, a local teacher who is one of the few people who remember the events of 1984, as there haven’t been any ghost sightings in the last 30 years or so. Bokeem Woodbine, Tracy Letts co-star as well with Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Sigourney Weaver and Annie Potts reprising their roles from the original movies. It seems weirdly serious and lacking in jokes but we’ll have to wait until July 10th to see if it can be a worthy follow-up to the original movies. Check out the trailer below.
