Musical Montage: Thurl Ravenscroft “You’re A Mean One, Mr. Grinch”
We’re firmly in the holiday season and one of the greatest pieces of holiday entertainment is the original How the Grinch Stole Christmas animated special from 1966. Animated by the legendary Chuck Jones and narrated by the great Boris Karloff, the TV special has never been topped even by bigger and longer theatrical releases. One of the many highlights of the special is the song “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch”, which has become a holiday staple for the decades since the show originally aired. Many people mistakenly believe Karloff sang the song but it was actually Thurl Ravenscroft in an uncredited role. Besides “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch”, Ravenscroft is probably best known for voicing Tony the Tiger for Kellogg for over five decades. He also contributed to a bunch of Disney attractions, doing voices and singing for rides like The Haunted Mansion, Pirates of the Caribbean and the Enchanted Tiki Room as Fritz the Macaw. You can watch the “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch” segment from the animated special below.
