Netflix Goes Back in Time Before the Cuckoo’s Nest for Ratched (Trailer)

Coming next month from Ryan Murphy as part of his Netflix megadeal, Ratched heads back in time to tell the origin story of one of the greatest cinematic villains of all time, Nurse Mildred Ratched from One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, who was played by Louise Fletcher.  16 years before the movie, a younger Mildred Ratched, played by Sarah Paulson, arrives at a mental hospital to begin her career as a nurse and follows her evolution into the passive-aggressive monster from the movie and her conflicts with administration, patients and fellow nurses.  Cynthia Nixon, Sharon Stone, Jon Jon Briones, Judy Davis, Finn Wittrock, Corey Stoll, Vincent D’Onofrio and Amanda Plummer co-star and it definitely looks like it’s going in a much more stylized, violent and colorful direction than the classic film, which was oppressive because of the blandness of the way the hospital looked along with the rules enforced by Nurse Ratched.  The series premieres on Netflix on September 18th and you can check out the trailer below.
