The King of Rock and Roll Hits the Big Screen in June with Elvis (Trailer)
It’s been almost a decade since the last big Baz Luhrmann movie, which was his lavish adaptation of The Great Gatsby, but the Australian director is back to tell the story of the King of Rock and Roll with the musical biopic, Elvis. Austin Butler plays Elvis Presley and the movie follows his rise to superstardom through his complicated relationship with his manager, Colonel Tom Parker, played by Tom Hanks under tons of makeup. Olivia DeJonge plays Priscilla Presley and Kodi Smit-McPhee, David Wenham, Dacre Montgomery, Luke Bracey, Richard Roxburgh and Kelvin Harrison Jr all co-star as well. It looks like the typical biopic formula as it goes from Elvis’ childhood through the years but with Luhrmann’s over the top flourishes. There have been some TV biopics, like the famous John Carpenter/Kurt Russell collab, but this is the first big screen biopic for The King. Elvis hits theaters on June 24th and you can check out the trailer below.
