Musical Montage: Stevie Wonder “Stay Gold”
Celebrating its 40th anniversary this past weekend, Francis Ford Coppola’s The Outsiders featured a theme song from the legendary Stevie Wonder along with its all-star cast. “Stay Gold” was performed by Stevie Wonder for the movie’s soundtrack and he wrote the lyrics while the movie’s composer, Carmine Coppola, composed the music. Carmine Coppola is Francis Ford Coppola’s father and a legendary musician and songwriter who wrote all the music for The Godfather trilogy and the rest of his son’s filmography. “Stay Gold” was not released as a single, so there’s no chart performance or official music video but the following year in 1984, Wonder had one of the biggest hits of his career with another soundtrack son, “I Just Called to Say I Love You”, which came off the soundtrack for The Woman in Red and earned Wonder an Academy Award. You can listen to “Stay Gold” below.
