Everything Action Theater: The Adventures of Super Mario 3
While this weekend’s The Super Mario Bros. Movie is only the second big screen outing for the Mario Bros., it’s the latest in a long line of animated projects featuring the famous plumbers, which includes 1990’s The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3. If it wasn’t clear from the title, The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3 was released in September 1990 to tie into the release of Super Mario Bros. 3, which had been released in the US earlier in the year in February. The show was the successor to The Super Mario Bros. Super Show and unfortunately dropped any sort of live-action segments but gained a more consistent tone and world. John Stocker and Harvey Atkin, who played Toad and Bowser respectively, were the only two actors to return from the previous series, with Walker Boone playing Mario, Tony Rosato voicing Luigi, and Tracey Moore voicing Peach/Toadstool. The show was paired with the second season of Captain N and lasted for 26 episodes before getting replaced with the Super Mario World cartoon to tie into that SNES launch title’s release. There have been full-season releases from Shout Factor and NCircle and you can stream the entire series on Paramount+, Roku, Tubi, Hoopla, and Freevee. The first episode, “Sneaky Lying Cheating Giant Ninja Koopas/Reptiles in the Rose Garden” is below to check out from YouTube.
