HBO Max and Discovery+ Are Merging into Max (Trailers)
Since Warner Bros. and Discovery merged, there’s been speculation about what would happen with each company’s respective streaming service, and if they would eventually merge. We got official confirmation that HBO Max is turning into just “Max”, and will include Discovery+ content along with future “Max Originals” like The Penguin and Gremlins: Secret of the Mogwai. The new service will have three tiers, with the first two tiers being the current HBO Max subscription levels (and current HBO Max subscribers won’t see a price increase, at least not immediately) with a third tier being Max Ultimate Ad Free, which will include up to 4 simultaneous streams, 4K Ultra HD, Dolby Atmos and 100 offline downloads for $19.99 a month. Discovery+ will remain standalone for the time being at the current price levels. There were a number of trailers dropped for upcoming series but there were also a bunch of announcements about future shows including:
- A series set in The Conjuring universe produced by James Wan and Peter Safran.
- A second Game of Thrones prequel series, The Hedge Knight, is coming and is set 100 years before the events of the original series and following the adventures of Ser Duncan the Tall, and his diminutive squire, Egg.
- The Harry Potter reboot series was officially confirmed with JK Rowling executive producing. The show has a 10-year plan and each season of the series will be based on 1 book in the Harry Potter series. A brand new cast will be found to play Harry, Ron, Hermione, and the rest of the Potterverse gang.
- Tiny Toons is returning with Tiny Toons Looniversity, which will follow Babs, Buster, and the Tiny Toons gang in college. A new voice cast is playing the characters and it will be a separate continuity and not connected to the original series. The show will also be more serialized, telling an overarching story throughout the first season.
