The Story of Flamin’ Hot Cheetos Comes to Hulu and Disney+ in June (Trailer)
Eva Longoria directs the story of how the snack sensation Flamin’ Hot Cheetos was developed in the late 80s and early 90s, allegedly. Jessie Garcia plays Richard Montañez, who worked as a janitor at a Frito-Lay factory before he developed and pitched the idea for a spicy Cheetos flavor, specifically to cater to the Latino/Hispanic market, where spice was an integral part of their food culture. There’s debate on how true Montanéz’s claim is, as there’s also a version of events that the project was headed by Lynne Greenfeld at the company’s headquarters in Texas. Montanéz did rise in the company from janitor to marketing executive and helped pitch subsequent Flamin’ Hot variants, like popcorn. The movie is definitely taking Montanéz’s side of the events as the inventor of the original Flamin’ Hot Cheetos and leaning into the rags-to-riches story. Dennis Haysbert, Annie Gonzalez, Tony Shalhoub, Emilio Rivera, Matt Walsh, and Pepe Serna co-star. The movie hits Hulu and Disney+ on June 9th and you can check out the trailer below.
