The Exorcist Returns in October with The Exorcist: Believer (Trailer)
After delivering a new Halloween trilogy to mixed reception, director David Gordon Green is tackling another iconic horror franchise with The Exorcist: Believer. Similar to his Halloween sequels, The Exorcist: Believer is set as a direct sequel to the original 1973 classic, erasing the other sequels from continuity (sorry the surprisingly great Exorcist III). When a pair of young girls go missing for their days, their parents are relieved when they return seemingly unharmed. However, they start to exhibit signs of demonic possession, prompting one of the girl’s fathers (Leslie Odom Jr.) to seek the counsel of someone with experience, Chris MacNeil (Ellen Burstyn), the mother of Reagan MacNeil. It looks suitably creepy, with the franchise’s signature “Tubular Bells” theme back and seemingly the return of the demon Pazuzu, but the last two Halloween movies Green made were a mess, so expectations are tempered. Jennifer Nettles, Ann Dowd, Lidya Jewett, Ralph Sbarge, Olivia Marcum, and Antoni Corone co-star and the movie is out on October 13th. Check out the trailer below.
