Musical Montage: Jamie Foxx “Experiment”

One of the strangest moments of 1997’s Home Alone 3 is the inclusion of Jamie Foxx’s music video for the song “Experiment”, which Alex (Alex D. Linz) uses to prank his elderly neighbor.  “Experiment” was the second single off of Foxx’s debut album Peep This and was released on September 5th, 1994 but it didn’t have any impact on the charts.  The album peaked at #78 on the Billboard charts but received mostly negative reviews from critics.  All that lack of performance and negative reaction makes it doubly weird that “Experiment” would appear briefly in a movie 3 years later with the only possible explanation being that Peep This was released under Fox’s music label and Home Alone 3 was a 20th Century Fox release, so it may have been incredibly cheap to license.  Foxx had much more success in 2005 when Unpredictable came out, his second album that went to #2 on the Billboard charts and featured much bigger hits like “Unpredictable” and “Extravaganza”.  You can watch the music video for “Experiment” which is featured in Home Alone 3 below.
