Everything Action Theater: Max Steel (2000)

Based on a series of action figures from Mattel, Max Steel was a CG animated TV on Kids WB that ran for three seasons starting in February 2000.  Christian Campbell starred as Josh McGrath, a 19-year-old teenage xtreme sports fanatic who finds out that the sports company he works for, N-Tek, is actually a secret anti-terrorist espionage agency run by his adoptive father Jefferson Smith (Chi McBride).  When the villainous Psycho (Keith Szarabajka) attacks N-Tek, Josh is covered in experimental nanobots that give him powerful new abilities but will kill him if he isn’t recharged with “transphasic” energy.  With his new abilities, Josh becomes Max Steel, a secret agent who travels the globe and battles the evil forces of DREAD. With the extreme sports angle, the show featured guest stars like Tony Hawk, Matt Hoffman, and Jeremy McGrath playing themselves.  The original series lasted 35 episodes and then, in 2013, the show was rebooted on Disney XD for 52 episodes.  The franchise also had animated movies, video games, and a live-action theatrical movie in 2016, which was a commercial and critical failure.  Thanks to the Throwback Toons YouTube channel, you can watch the first episode of the original series, “Strangers”.
