Everything Action Theater: The Most Dangerous Game (1932)
We’re talking about 1994’s Surviving the Game this week on the Everything Actioncast, which is one of the many adaptations of the 1924 short story “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell. RKO produced the first adaptation of the story in 1932 with The Most Dangerous Game, which you can watch for the latest Everything Action Theater. Starring Fay Wray, Joel McCrea, and Leslie Banks, the movie finds a group of shipwrecked travelers washing ashore on the island of Count Zaroff (Banks), who reveals his obsession for hunting humans aka “The Most Dangerous Game”. The movie was directed by Ernest B. Schoedsack, who would direct King Kong with Merian C. Cooper a year later in 1933. The movie was well-received by critics then and has enjoyed positive reception from more modern critics as well. The movie entered the public domain in 1961 but there have been higher-quality releases, including a 1999 Criterion DVD and a region-free Blu-ray from Flicker Alley.
