News Shotgun 4/27/26

Here’s all the movie and TV news you need to know from the past week; it’s the News Shotgun.

Rosemary’s Baby prequel coming to Paramount+: A prequel to Rosemary’s Baby, Apartment 7A, is coming to Paramount+ in the fall.  Julia Garner, of Ozark, is starring as a young dancer who moves into the infamous New York City apartment before the movie’s events and encounters the dark forces that live in the building.  Dianne Wiest, Jim Sturgess, and Kevin McNally are co-stars, and the film is directed by Natalie Erika James, who previously directed the 2020 horror movie Relic.

Jensen Ackles joins Tracker: Jensen Ackles is joining Justin Hartley on the popular CBS series Tracker, playing Hartley’s estranged brother.  Ackles’ character will debut on the May 12th episode “Off the Books.”  The series has had solid ratings for CBS and received an early renewal for a second season shortly after the premiere, which debuted after this year’s Super Bowl.

Mayday adds cast members: The upcoming Apple TV+ action movie Mayday added several cast members this week, including Maria Bakalova, Marcin Dorocinski, Lovell Adams-Gray, and Clark Johnson.  Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley are directing the movie, which also stars Ryan Reynolds and Kenneth Branagh. However, there are no details about the plot yet.

28 Years Later finds starring cast: The upcoming third movie in the 28 Days Later series has found its three lead actors, with Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jodie Comer, and Ralph Fiennes signing on.  Alex Garland is writing the script, and Nia DaCosta, coming off The Marvels, is directing.  Danny Boyle will be the movie’s executive producer.  No specific plot details are revealed, but based on the title, the new film will take place 28 years after the Rage Virus was unleashed.

John Logan writing film adaptation of Blood Meridian: Cormac McCarthy’s Blood Meridian is getting a film adaptation with John Logan signed on the pen the script.  Logan previously wrote Gladiator, The Aviator, Skyfall, and Spectre.  John Hillcoat is signed on to direct the movie.  Blood Meridian is considered one of the greatest novels of all time and “follows the journey of the Kid, a fourteen-year-old from Tennessee, as he navigates the brutal and harrowing landscape of this new era.”

Callum Turner joins Neuromancer: Coming off Masters of the Air, Callum Turner is sticking with Apple TV+ for their upcoming series based on the William Gibson classic, Neuromancer.  Turner will star as Case, “a damaged, top-rung super-hacker”, who finds himself in a world of high-tech crime and digital espionage with his partner Molly, “a razor-girl assassin with mirrored eyes”.  Graham Roland, who previously worked on Jack Ryan, and JD Dillard, of The Outsider, are the series’ creators.

Al Pacino and Dan Stevens are starring in a new exorcism movie: Al Pacino and Dan Stevens are facing off against demons in the upcoming exorcism movie, The Ritual.  The pair will play priests who are sent to try and save a possessed woman through a series of exorcisms.  The movie is based on the true story of Emma Schmidt, one of the most documented exorcisms in American history.  David Midell is directing the film, and it’s coming out sometime next year.

El Paso, Elsewhere movie adaptation in development: Now that video game adaptations are turning out great, with stuff like Fallout and The Last of Us, everyone is looking for games to adapt, and indie game El Paso, Elsewhere is the latest game to be optioned for a film.  LaKeith Stanfield has signed on to star, and his character, James Savage, “confronts both his inner demons and enigmatic ex-girlfriend, Janet, before she executes a world-ending ritual.”  Max Payne, Quake, and Hotline Miami inspired the game.
