Mufasa’s Rise Gets Told in December in The Lion King Prequel (Trailer)

2019’s The Lion King is one of the highest-grossing films of all time, and Disney is looking to continue that success with a prequel to that movie, Mufasa: The Lion King.  Also acting as a sort of sequel, the movie’s framing device is Rafiki (John Kani) telling the story of Mufasa and Scar to Simba’s (Donald Glover) daughter, Kiara (Blue Ivy Carter).  Before he was the noble and powerful king we met in The Lion King, Mufasa (Aaron Pierre) was an orphaned lion cub who met Taka (Kelvin Harrison Jr.), the heir to the royal bloodline.  Timon (Billy Eichner) and Pumbaa (Seth Rogen) join Rafiki to tell the story in the framing device, and Beyoncé, Tiffany Boone, Thandiwe Newton, Lennie James, Keith David, and Anika Noni Rose co-star as well.  Barry Jenkins, who directed the Best Picture winner Moonlight, is directing the movie, and Jeff Nathanson, who wrote the 2019 The Lion King, returned to write Mufasa.  Mufasa hits theaters on December 20th, and you can check out the trailer below.
