Musical Montage: Stan Bush “No Surrender”
An homage to 80s classics like Bloodsport and Kickboxer, The Last Kumite was funded on Kickstarter and recently released on 4K/Blu-ray. Along with featuring appearances from the likes of Billy Blanks, Mathias Hues, and Cynthia Rothrock, the movie also features a score from composer Paul Hertzog and original songs from the legendary Stan Bush, including the title song “No Surrender.” Mathis Landwehr stars as fighter Michael Rivers, who is blackmailed into competing in an underground fighting tournament when evil promotor Ron Hall (Mathias Hues) kidnaps his daughter. In order to win the tournament and defeat Hall’s intimidating champion, Dracko (Mike Derudder), Rivers has to team up with some fellow fighters who were similarly blackmailed and train with several masters to reach his maximum potential. The movie was formed out of a 4K release of Bloodsport by Capelight Pictures. That release was a success, and Capelight took some of the money and reinvested it into The Last Kumite, with the Kickstarter campaign making up the rest of the money needed to make the movie. Stan Bush, an 80s master of action movie soundtracks, contributed original songs “Running the Gauntlet” and “No Surrender,” the latter of which got a music video featuring the man himself.
