Everything Action Theater: The Hill Have Eyes (1977)
It’s October again, meaning it’s a month of horror movies for Everything Action Theater. We’re kicking things off with a classic, 1977’s The Hills Have Eyes. Directed by Wes Craven, The Hills Have Eyes was the second feature film from the horror master and followed the Carter family, who break down in the Nevada desert on a trip to Los Angeles. Unfortunately for the Carters, they’ve broken down in the territory of a group of sadistic cannibals, and they are the latest targets. Horror icon Michael Berryman was the standout and cover star of the movie as Pluto, who would return in the movie’s sequel and had dozens of other roles across film and TV, including this year providing the voice of “The Plutonium Killer” in Vinegar Syndrome’s release of New York Ninja. Co-star Dee Wallace also carved out a niche as a “scream queen,” appearing in movies like The Howling and Cujo after The Hills Have Eyes. The movie was remade by Alexandre Aja in 2006 and inspired the controversial X-Files episode “Home” and The Weeknd’s song “The Hills.” You can watch the entire movie below, thanks to YouTube.
