Here’s all the movie and TV news you need to know from the past week, it’s the News Shotgun.
Wolfs 2 not happening: A follow-up to the George Clooney/Brad Pitt starring Wolfs is apparently canceled at Apple. Director Jon Watts mentioned in a recent interview with Collider that he believes a sequel to Wolfs is not happening. The movie shifted from a regular theatrical release to a one-week theatrical release and then debuted on Apple TV+. There seemed to be an arrangement where this shift was offset by a deal to make a sequel, but that is seemingly no longer the case. Apple claimed that Wolfs was the most-watched debut on its streaming platform.
The Day of the Jackal renewed for Season 2: Thriller series The Day of the Jackal has been renewed for a second season on the UK’s Sky and Peacock here in the US. The series is based on the classic Frederick Forsyth novel and stars Eddie Redmayne as an international assassin known only as The Jackal, who is pursued by a British intelligence agent, played by Lashana Lynch. The show has been the #1 series on Peacock after it debuted last week on the service.
Scream 7 finds Sidney’s daughter: The upcoming seventh entry in the Scream franchise has found Sidney Prescott’s daughter, with Isabel May signed on to join Neve Campbell and Courteney Cox in the sequel. May has been starring in the Yellowstone prequel series 1883 and 1923. Kevin Williamson, who wrote the original Scream and has overseen most of the series since is directing Scream 7.
Scott Pilgrim Takes Off not returning to Netflix: Scott Pilgrim creator Bryan Lee O’Malley confirmed on social media this week that there will not be a follow-up season to Scott Pilgrim Takes Off on Netflix. The show was only intended to be a limited series, but an after-credits tease made it seem like there could be more possibilities. The series reunited the cast of Edgar Wright’s live-action Scott Pilgrim movie and provided an alternate universe take on the franchise.
Stallone in talks for Tulsa King Season 3 and 4: Sylvester Stallone is apparently in final negotiations to return for two more seasons of Tulsa King on Paramount+. Season 2 just recently wrapped up on the streaming platform. It has been a ratings and critical success, garnering 100% on RottenTomatoes from critics, and its streaming performance outpaces the already successful first season. Stallone is also an executive producer on the series.
Daniel Craig and Luca Guadagnino are teaming up for Sgt. Rock movie: Daniel Craig and director Luca Guadagnino, who are currently promoting their A24 movie Queer are in talks with DC Studios for a Sgt. Rock movie. Craig would star, and Guadagnino would direct. Justin Kuritzkes, who wrote Queer and Challengers for Guadagnino, wrote the script for Sgt. Rock. Sgt. Rock is a DC World War II hero who first appeared in comics in 1959.
Pamela Hayden retires from The Simpsons: After 35 years, Pamela Hayden is retiring from the voice cast of The Simpsons. Hayden played several characters, most notably Milhouse but also Jimbo, Rod, Todd, Janey, and Sarah Wiggum, and is credited with appearing in 694 episodes of the series. Hayden’s final episode will be this Sunday’s (11/24) episode, “Treehouse of Horror Presents: Simpsons Wicked This Way Comes.”
Gabriel Macht appearing in Suits spin-off: Original Suits star Gabriel Macht is in talks to reprise his role as Harvey Specter in the upcoming spin-off, Suits L.A. Macht would appear in three episodes of the new series, which stars Stephen Amell as Ted Black, who runs a powerful law firm in Los Angeles. Adam Korsh, who created Suits, is showrunning the spin-off, which will air on NBC.
Star Wars Visions returning for a third season: One of the best and most interesting modern Star Wars series, Star Wars Visions, will return on Disney+ for a third season. The anthology show gives full creative control to various animation studios to interpret the Star Wars universe however they see fit. Season 3 will feature all Japanese anime studios, including David Productions, who created JoJo’s Bizarre Adventures, Polygon Pictures, Project Studio Q, Production I.G., Kinema Cinema, TRIGGER and Kamikaze Douga. The new season will debut sometime in 2025.
Genesis Rodriguez joins The Night Agent Season 3: Currently co-starring in the second season of Lioness on Paramount+, Genesis Rodriguez is in talks to join The Night Agent for its upcoming third season. Season 2 of the Netflix action series debuts on January 23rd next year, and the series got an early renewal for a third season. Rodriguez would be a series regular in the third season. The Night Agent is the 7th most popular series on Netflix’s charts.
David Dastmalchian, Ashley Greene, and Samantha Cochran co-star in The Cure: The upcoming horror movie The Cure has found its main cast, with David Dastmalchian, Ashley Greene, and Samantha Cochran. Cochran will star as the adoptive daughter of a pair of bio-engineering billionaires (Dastmalchian and Greene) who discover that her parents are secretly harvesting her blood for some sort of nefarious purpose. The movie is directed by Nancy Leopardi.
New Cape Fear is coming to Apple TV+: Cape Fear is returning with a new TV adaptation coming to Apple TV+. Javier Bardem is the new Max Cady, a recently released murderer who terrorizes married attorneys Amanda and Steve Bowden. Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg are the series’ executive producers, along with Bardem. Nick Antosca, who created Channel Zero, The Act, and Brand New Cherry Flavor, is showrunning the series. All versions of Cape Fear are based on the novel The Executioners by John D. MacDonald, and there was the 1962 film starring Robert Mitchum and the 1991 version starring Robert DeNiro.
