Everything Action Theater: Geostorm (2017)
He’s helping to pull off a massive heist this weekend in Den of Thieves 2: Pantera in theaters, but back in 2017, Gerard Butler was trying to save the world from global disasters in Geostorm. Butler played Jaked Lawson, the chief architect of an array of satellites in orbit called Dutch Boy that help control the planet’s climate and stop natural disasters. Reprimanded and forced off the project when he brings it online without authorization to stop a typhoon in Shanghai, Jake is brought back three years later when the satellites start going haywire and start causing disasters instead of stopping them. Working with his brother Max (Jim Sturgess), the Assistant Secretary of State, and Max’s girlfriend, Secret Service agent Sarah Wilson(Abbie Cornish) on Earth, Jake heads to the orbiting International Climate Space Station and discovers evidence of sabotage and a conspiracy. The movie underperformed at the box office when it was released, losing Warner Bros. an estimated $71.6 million. It has gained a bit of a following in bad movie fan circles, including being featured on How Did This Get Made? and became a recurring joke of shouting “GEOSTORM!”.
