Here’s all the movie and TV news you need to know from the past week; it’s the News Shotgun.

Rory McCann taking over for Ray Stevenson on AhsokaBaylan Skoll, played by the late Ray Stevenson, has much more to do in Ahsoka Season 2. Game of Thrones actor Rory McCann may take over the role.  McCann played Sandor “The Hound” Clegane on GoT.  Season 1 of Ahsoka left off with Skoll on the planet where Grand Admiral Thrawn had been left stranded with Jedi Ezra Bridger (Eman Esfandi) and setting off on a quest for an ancient power.

Tom Holland starring in adaptation of John Grisham’s The Partner: A new John Grisham adaptation is in development with Tom Holland signed on to star.  The Partner will find Holland as Patrick Lanigan, a Biloxi lawyer who fakes his death and steals $90 million from a client of his crooked law firm.  Fleeing to South America, Lanigan is forced to return and face the FBI and the family he left behind when the client hunts him down.  Graham Moore, who directed The Imitation Game, is directing the movie for Universal.

Cast members returning for Dexter: Resurrection: The upcoming continuation of the Dexter franchise, Dexter: Resurrection, has three returning cast members: David Zayas, James Remar, and Jack Alcott reprising their roles as regulars in the new series. Michael C. Hall returns as Dexter Morgan, and the series takes place following Dexter: New Blood.

Holes reboot in development: Disney is rebooting fan-favorite Holes with a gender-swapped TV series.  The new series will have a similar premise to the original movie but feature a teenage girl as the main protagonist, sentenced to a detention camp and forced to dig holes by the ruthless warden.  Shia LaBeouf starred in the movie version, which was based on the novel by Louis Sachar.

Horizon Zero Dawn film in development: During a presentation at CES this past week, Sony revealed they are in the early stages of developing a movie based on Horizon Zero Dawn.  The game, followed by a sequel, Horizon: Forbidden West, follows Aloy, a machine hunter in the far future who sets out to discover the secrets of the mechanical creatures that roam the lands and save humanity from a world-ending threat. There was no director attached or casting announcements.

Helldivers movie in development: At the same CES presentation, Sony also revealed a Helldivers movie is in development.  Helldivers 2 came out last year and was a massive hit as players joined together to save democracy and battle threats like giant insects and killer robots.  The game owes a lot to Starship Troopers, and a movie of Helldivers will probably share that same over-the-top and satirical style.  No director was attached, and neither were the stars or release date announced.

Ghost of Tsushima anime in development: Sony’s last big announcement at CES was that their anime streamer, Crunchyroll, will have an anime series based on Ghost of Tsushima. The anime series will adapt the multiplayer mode Legends, which dabbles more in Japanese mythology and folklore. Chad Stahelski has been attached to a live-action movie adaptation of the game since 2021.

Grimm movie reboot in development: NBC’s fantasy hit Grimm, which wrapped up in 2017, is returning to Peacock with a reboot film.  Josh Berman, who created Drop Dead Diva, is writing and executive producing the movie along with the show’s original showrunners, David Greenwalt and Jim Kouf.  The film will introduce new characters and mythology but have “ties to the series for diehard fans.”  If the movie is successful, it could lead to a new rebooted Grimm series.  NBC previously tried to launch a spin-off featuring a female lead, but that project fizzled out.
