Everything Action Theater: Tales from the Crypt “The Man Who Was Death”
We’re talking about Demon Knight on the Everything Actioncast this week, which came out at the tail end of Tales from the Crypt‘s run on HBO. You can go back to the beginning and watch the first episode of the series, “The Man Who Was Death,” in the latest Everything Action Theater. Airing on June 10, 1989, “The Man Who Was Death” was directed by the legendary Walter Hill and starred William Sadler, who would later appear in the season 6 episode “The Assassin” along with co-starring in Demon Knight and appearing in Bordello of Blood. Sadler is an executioner for a prison who gets laid off when the local government abolishes the death penalty. He decides to take matters into his own hands and becomes a vigilante, killing murder suspects who are acquitted. Tales from the Crypt became a cultural juggernaut, with The Cryptkeeper (John Kassir) making cameos and public appearances and two kid-centric spin-offs were made, the animated Tales from the Cryptkeeper and the insane 90s gameshow Secrets of the Cryptkeeper’s Haunted House.
