Musical Montage: DC La Croix “Devil’s Son”
Although it features the rocking tune “Devil’s Son” by metal band DC La Croix, 1988’s Hack-O-Lantern strangely isn’t a part of the surprisingly large heavy metal horror subgenre that includes movies like Trick r Treat, Black Roses, and Rock n Roll Nightmare.
Musical Montage: Vinnie Vincent Invasion “Love Kills”
While “Nightmare” by A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master co-star Tuesday Knight is arguably the best-remembered song from that movie’s soundtrack (that or “Are You Ready for Freddy” by the Fat Boys), there were a ton of other songs and artists featured, including glam metal band Vinnie Vincent Invasion with “Love Kills”.
Musical Montage: Nelly “Iz U”
For 2003’s The Haunted Mansion movie, Nelly contributed the song “Iz U” to the movie’s soundtrack and had a spooky music video to go along with it.
Musical Montage: Red Hot Chili Peppers “Soul to Squeeze”
Although not included on an actual Red Hot Chili Peppers album until 2003’s Greatest Hits, “Soul to Squeeze” was included on the soundtrack album for Coneheads and became a hit single for RHCP.
Musical Montage: Jenny Lewis “She’s Not Me”
Coming off her third solo album, The Voyager, She’s Not Me by Jenny Lewis features a music video directed by Lewis that pays homage to some of her past childhood acting roles, like The Wizard and Troop Beverly Hills, with some help from famous friends like Vanessa Bayer and Fred Armisen.
Musical Montage: Billy Idol “Cradle of Love”
Coming from the soundtrack for Andrew Dice Clay’s The Adventures of Ford Fairlane from 1990, “Cradle of Love” became one of Billy Idol’s biggest hits and his last major hit in the US.
Musical Montage: Jamiroquai “Deeper Underground”
Although “Come With Me” by P. Diddy is probably the song most remembered from the soundtrack to 1998’s Godzilla, there were a ton of other songs off that album, including “Deeper Underground” by Jamiroquai.
Musical Montage: Lisa Stansfield and Babyface “Dream Away”
Playing during the end credits of 1994’s The Pagemaster, “Dream Away” by Lisa Stansfield and Babyface was one of two pop songs from the movie.
Musical Montage: Dirty Dancing
Celebrating its 35th anniversary this past weekend, Dirty Dancing still has one of the most iconic movie soundtracks of all time between its classic licensed music from the likes of The Ronnettes, The Drifters, and Mickey & Sylvia and the new songs like “Hungry Eyes” by Eric Carmen, “She’s Like the Wind” by star Patrick Swayze and the show-stopping finale song, “(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life” by Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes.
Musical Montage: Grease
With the passing of Olivia Newton-John last week, we’re paying our respects with this week’s Musical Montage by featuring one of her most enduring contributions to pop culture, Grease.
Musical Montage: Gary Chapman “Brave Hearts”
Along with the bafflingly sincere ballad from Ernest, “Gee I’m Glad It’s Raining”, Ernest Goes to Camp also had a classic 80s “gearing up” montage in the vein of something like The Monster Squad set to the song “Brave Hearts” by Gary Chapman.
