Musical Montage: Ninja Turtles: The Next Mutation Theme
Ninja Turtles: The Next Mutation arrived in 1997 from Saban but only lasted one season when it was canceled in 1998. There was enough time in that period however to make a ridiculous 90s music video for the show’s theme song, which featured all the Turtles, Splinter, and the new villain, Dragon Lord.
Musical Montage: New Jack City
A huge hit when it was released alongside the movie in 1991 and eventually going Platinum, the soundtrack for New Jack City saw co-stars Ice-T and Christopher Williams providing tracks along with Keith Sweat, Troop/Levert, Queen Latifah, Color Me Badd and more.
Musical Montage: Ill Niño “How Can I Live”
Freddy and Jason have had a long history with soundtrack songs from the likes of Dokken, Alice Cooper, The Fresh Prince, The Fat Boys, and more but since 2003 was firmly in the era of Nu-Metal, Ill Niño provided Freddy vs Jason its end credits song and main soundtrack single, “How Can I Live”.
Musical Montage: Ghost “Hunter’s Moon”
If you saw Halloween Kills this past weekend, you probably heard “Hunter’s Moon” from Swedish hard rock/heavy metal group Ghost on the soundtrack, which is the first new single from the band since 2019.
Musical Montage: Raven-Symoné “Superstition”
Although she co-starred with him on the first two Doctor Dolittle movies, Raven-Symoné didn’t appear in the 2003 Eddie Murphy movie The Haunted Mansion, instead contributing a cover of the Stevie Wonder classic “Superstition” and appearing in a tie-in music video.
Musical Montage: Lil Cea$er “PG For Short”
Seemingly inspired by songs like the Maniac Cop Rap and Turtle Power, the wonderfully over-the-top Psycho Goreman featured its own rap soundtrack song, “PG for Short”, performed by the character Lil Cea$er, that played over the end credits.
Musical Montage: Briz DJ “The Hum”
The guys from Briz DJ have a massive house party that eventually sees the one and only Jean-Claude Van Damme arrive to jump a dirtbike into a pool, arm wrestle and more in the music video for the techno/EDM song “The Hum”.
Musical Montage: Wyclef Jean “We Trying to Stay Alive (Remix)”
For the debut single off his first solo album, Wyclef Jean sampled “Stayin Alive” and some other songs for “We Trying to Stay Alive” and, since the main sample came from a song from the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack, he also paid homage to that John Travolta classic with a disco-themed music video directed by Roman Coppola.
Musical Montage: Goo Goo Dolls “I’m Awake Now”
The Goo Goo Dolls exploded later in the 90s with their Dizzy Up The Girl album and City of Angels soundtrack contribution “Iris” but earlier in the decade they provided “I’m Awake Now” to the “final” Nightmare on Elm Street movie, Freddy’s Dead, in 1991.
Musical Montage: The Beach Boys “Problem Child”
For the first Problem Child movie, The Beach Boys provided the title song “Problem Child”, with the music video featuring movie cast members Gilbert Gottfried and Junior himself, Michael Healy, in the music video.
Musical Montage: Motörhead “Eat the Rich”
Along with Lemmy appearing in the movie, Motörhead contributed six songs, including the title track, to the soundtrack for 1987’s UK comedy Eat the Rich.
