Musical Montage: Lil Cea$er “PG For Short”
Seemingly inspired by songs like the Maniac Cop Rap and Turtle Power, the wonderfully over-the-top Psycho Goreman featured its own rap soundtrack song, “PG for Short”, performed by the character Lil Cea$er, that played over the end credits.
Musical Montage: Briz DJ “The Hum”
The guys from Briz DJ have a massive house party that eventually sees the one and only Jean-Claude Van Damme arrive to jump a dirtbike into a pool, arm wrestle and more in the music video for the techno/EDM song “The Hum”.
Musical Montage: Wyclef Jean “We Trying to Stay Alive (Remix)”
For the debut single off his first solo album, Wyclef Jean sampled “Stayin Alive” and some other songs for “We Trying to Stay Alive” and, since the main sample came from a song from the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack, he also paid homage to that John Travolta classic with a disco-themed music video directed by Roman Coppola.
Musical Montage: Goo Goo Dolls “I’m Awake Now”
The Goo Goo Dolls exploded later in the 90s with their Dizzy Up The Girl album and City of Angels soundtrack contribution “Iris” but earlier in the decade they provided “I’m Awake Now” to the “final” Nightmare on Elm Street movie, Freddy’s Dead, in 1991.
Musical Montage: The Beach Boys “Problem Child”
For the first Problem Child movie, The Beach Boys provided the title song “Problem Child”, with the music video featuring movie cast members Gilbert Gottfried and Junior himself, Michael Healy, in the music video.
Musical Montage: Motörhead “Eat the Rich”
Along with Lemmy appearing in the movie, Motörhead contributed six songs, including the title track, to the soundtrack for 1987’s UK comedy Eat the Rich.
Musical Montage: Lonr. feat Amber Mark “Save My Love”
This past weekend’s new theatrical/HBO Max release Reminiscence doesn’t seem like the kind of movie that would normally have a music video tie-in but the movie’s end credits song “Save My Love” by Lonr. feat Amber Mack does have one, with Thandiwe Newton appearing to putting Lonr. into the memory machine to relive a past moment.
Musical Montage: The Prime Movers “Strong As I Am”
With director Michael Mann being a frequent attendee to their live shows in Los Angeles in the mid-80s, he added The Prime Movers’ “Strong As I Am” to the soundtrack for Manhunter in 1986 and the song got a movie-themed music video to go along with it.
Musical Montage: 21 Savage “Spiral”
Remixing composer Charlie Clouser’s iconic music from the Saw franchise, 21 Savage gave Saw its first soundtrack rap song with “Spiral”, which accompanied the Chris Rock/Samuel L. Jackson movie that arrived earlier this year.
Musical Montage: Dr Dre “Keep Their Heads Ringin”
Although star Ice Cube had a number of songs on the soundtrack for 1995’s Friday, the only single released for the soundtrack album was Dr Dre’s “Keep Their Heads Ringin”, which got a music video directed by Friday director F. Gary Gray.
Musical Montage: Maximum Overdrive
For his one and only time directing a movie, Stephen King got his favorite band, AC/DC to provide the soundtrack for Maximum Overdrive. The band put out Who Made Who, a new album with some classic tracks along with new ones like the title track that functions as the movie’s soundtrack album.
